Spring has been off to a slow start. Not surprising with all the cold and rain. But it seems to have finally arrived in time for Bloom Day. Not near as many plants are in bloom this year, compared to last year, but I’m sure enjoying what is showing off.

Nature has a beautiful way of letting me know spring has arrived. The trilliums are the first to bloom and the Violet-green Swallows are the first migrating birds to arrive. They usually show up with about 30 of their friends and spend their days darting around catching insects.

My first legit race of 2017 – the Shamrock Run in downtown Portland. In 2014, Farmer John & I ran the 5K. We had a great time, but I haven’t ran it again… until now. And, I upped my game. I ran/walked the hilly 15k.
Another year, another Great Backyard Bird Count. Typically I do a combination of counting birds in public areas, as well as around our home. This year I only counted birds near our house. One of my favorite spring plants is the Western Trillium, or Trillium ovatum. It is lovely with its showy white flower against the greens and browns of the forest floor.
A couple times while in Venice we visited St. Mark’s Square. It was fabulous, still filled with old world charm.
We spent our second full day in Venice taking a boat ride to Murano.
