2015 Great Backyard Bird Count

This is my 5th year participating in the Great Backyard Bird Count & for the first time the weather was great. We have had a very mild winter & it seems spring is arriving early. Unfortunately, it was a busy weekend & I didn’t get to look for birds as much as I had hoped

Using Mini Soil Blocks

As I’ve mentioned before, Farmer John loves making soil blocks to start seeds. Typically he uses the 2″ soil blocker, but occasionally he likes to use the mini, 3/4″ version.

Learning to Raise Pigs

Our oldest is raising 2 pigs to earn money for the laptop he’s been wanting. Although he’s been doing most of the feeding & watering, we’re all learning a little about pigs.

Aquaponics Update – November 2014

Not a lot of new things are happening in our aquaponics system this month. We’re continuing to let the geraniums, tomatoes & tomatillos grow. Farmer John is still working on the best way to heat the system, since tilapia need at least 70° water and preferrably 80°+.

Halloween Fun

I have fun taking photos of our critters. Typically, I like them in their natural setting, but sometimes I add props or backgrounds. This time I chose items from my kids dress up bin to dress up the goats for Halloween. I’m not sure they loved this photo shoot.
